Caleb Lemons

I am writing to tell you that I'm back home safe and sound and to give you a short report about my summer in Zambia. Please click on the images below to see a larger view.
The first two weeks at Boot camp were very challenging and very hot, but I loved spending time bonding with my team and preparing to serve the LORD in Zambia.

At the end of the two weeks, my team and I were ready to get out of there. After over 20 long hours of plane rides across the Atlantic Ocean and then on to Zambia, we were extremely tired. But God kept us safe through it all. Zambia is just beautiful. It’s amazing to see what God can do.
Upon arriving in Lusaka (the capital of Zambia), we loaded two trucks with 25 kids, 2 leaders and duffels that were filled with shoes and socks, and drove for six hours to the Teen Missions’ base in Ndola. We spent a few days there sorting shoes and socks, buying soap and medicines for the orphans and loading up with supplies for the bush. We were finally on our way to do what we had been looking forward to for almost three weeks. . . visit the Aids Orphans Rescue Units.
After 6 more hours in the truck, we arrived at Lushwishi, where we were greeted by about 20 orphans singing a welcome song to us. The music was the most beautiful thing I think I’ve ever heard! We spent five days there washing feet and sharing the gospel message with the children from surrounding villages who came to the Unit each day.

After Lushwishi, we went to three other units that took up the rest of the time in the bush.
There was one thing I struggled with that I think God was laying on my heart. At first when we arrived in the bush, I was really pumped up about serving God. I thought that He would just show me His will for my life right then. As time passed and I went through sickness (with most of my team members) really missing “home”, one of my team members encouraged me with Psalm 27 and especially verses 13 and 14. I made this Psalm my prayer, and in so doing, He brought to mind all that He was doing for me and my team and how much He was blessing us. He had been showing Himself to me the whole time.

I learned so much about what it means to “wait on the Lord”, and I must thank those who supported me for making this Summer possible. Without your prayer support and your financial support, I would not have been able to be a part of the Zambia team.

Love in Christ,
Caleb D. Lemons
